The RFID Master can connect to 4x blue RC522 Readers (see: Using an RFID Reader channel)
We recommend you watch the RFID Master Tutorial
To connect readers to a RFID Master, you will need:
- An 8-way ribbon cable (included with the blue RC522 Reader)
- A blue RC522 Reader with header pins or JST connector soldered on
RC522 Readers
To connect a reader:
- Make sure that: (if using the older style cables - 1x BLUE end, 1x BLACK end)
- the BLACK end of the 8-way cable is connected to the RFID Master
- the BLUE end of the 8-way cable is connected to the RC522 Reader
- the RED cable must be connected to the 3.3v line on the reader
- Make sure that: (if using the newer style cables - no coloured ends)
- one end of the 8-way cable is connected to the RFID Master
- the other end of the 8-way cable is connected to the RC522 Reader
- the RED cable must be connected to the 3.3v line on the reader
N.B. You can test the RFID Reader with a tag without connecting it to the network / COGS software
- Connect the reader and power up the box
- Do not connect a network cable to the ethernet port
- Next to each port is a status LED:
- It will show RED if there is no reader connected.
- It will show BLUE if a reader is connected, with no tag detected
- It will show GREEN when any MIFARE 13.56mhz tag is in range of the reader
