This documentation is to assist the tutorial on installing and setting up the Actor Assist system.
In this article, we'll run through the steps to assemble your Actor Assist Button Kit. These instructions apply to installing an 8, 16 or 32 button kit. To get started, unbox your kit. Inside your kit you will find:
- 8/ 16/ 32 x Junction Box Black (85mmx49mmx51mm) IP66
- 8/ 16/ 32 x Illuminated Push Button Switch, Momentary, Panel Mount, 12mm Cutout, SPST, Red/Green LED, 5V, IP67
- 8/ 16/ 32 x RJ45 Breakout
- 32/ 64/ 128 x 2.8mm Female Spade connectors Pre-Crimped (+spares)
- 8/ 16/ 32 x Metric Cable Glands 6 - 12mm IP65 Black (+spares)
- 1/ 2/ 4 x Digital Master
- 1 x 12mm Spade Bit
1. Using the 12mm spade bit, drill a hole in the centre of the lid of your junction box. There is a + etched into the lid, to help direct you to the centre of the lid.
2. Using 2x Black and 2x Red 2.8mm female spade connectors, connect them onto 1 of the Illuminated Push Buttons by using the diagram below to connect the correct colour wire onto the corresponding port on the button.
3. With the wires connected, unscrew the nut from the button, and remove. Push the wires through the front of the hole you made on the lid, and push the thread of the button through. Place the nut over the wires, and thread it onto the button to secure it to the lid.
4. Using 1x RJ45 Breakout, connect the coloured wires into the corresponding screw terminals as shown in the wiring diagram above.
5. With the grommet attached to the junction box (optional), run your CAT5/ 6 from your Digital Master to the location of your button. Push the CAT5 into the junction box (pre-crimped, or requiring crimping), and connect your CAT5/ 6 cable into the RJ45 breakout. Once connected, place the excess wire inside the junction box, and push the lid down. Use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the screws on the lid of your junction box.
6. Ensure your Digital Master is connected to your LAN (Local Area Network), and to a 9-24v PSU (12v 1A recommended). Connect the other end of your CAT5 cable from your button into one of the ports on the Digital Master.
In order to pair your Digital Master to the software, find more information here. To patch your buttons to the Digital Master, visit the Actor Assist - Software Setup article.
